SARDOC
Volunteer as a Hider / Training Subject
Help SARDOC handlers and dogs train by serving as a volunteer training subject during wilderness or urban exercises. You may choose the regions and environments where you feel comfortable participating.
What This Means
Volunteer hiders and training subjects help SARDOC dogs practice locating a person during training exercises. This support is valuable to building real-world search readiness for handlers and dogs.
You do not have to volunteer in situations you are not comfortable with. Some trainings are wilderness-based. Others are urban or more accessible. You may choose the regions and settings that best fit your comfort level and availability.
What to Expect
- You may be asked to wait quietly in a designated spot while dogs and handlers search.
- Some trainings involve short walks on trails, dirt roads, brush, snow, mud, or uneven terrain.
- Weather may include wind, heat, cold, or changing mountain conditions.
- Some trainings are urban and may be a better fit if you are less comfortable in wilderness settings.
- You may decline any environment or scenario you are not comfortable with.
